IN OUR WORSHIP
Welcome to all who are guests with us. Please join us after our morning worship for coffee in the Fellowship Room located to the right of the sanctuary.
Children ages 3 & 4 are invited to Children’s Church. They will be dismissed as indicated in the order of worship.
Today is the second Sunday of Lent. As a way of honoring the Lord Jesus Christ during this season, we are asking everyone to try and be seated in the sanctuary by 9:55 a.m. in silent meditation. Please use this time as an opportunity to prepare for worship. We would like to continue this practice through all 6 Sundays of Lent.
The Candles of Lent remind us of the six Sundays in Lent, six purple candles were lit the first week. Each following week, one candle will be extinguished to show the coming darkness, leading to the crucifixion of Christ. The white Christ candle is always lit, to show that Christ is always present and in our lives. This is used in our worship centers for our young children as well. The purple color in the sanctuary and narthex area reminds us of sorrow and penitence. The burlap fabric also reminds us of our need for penitence and our humanity.
This morning: Where is your treasure? We continue our Lenten theme of “Passing the Test” as Pastor Rick helps us look at the test Moses faced concerning what he valued the most. Our Scripture passage comes from Hebrews 11: 24-28.
This evening: We continue our “I AM” series as Pastor Rick preaches a message called “I AM- the Way, the Truth, and the Life” based on John 14: 5-14.
Next Sunday morning: Do you sometimes feel like Job? Are you being tested? Pastor Rick continues our Lenten theme of “Passing the Test” by looking at Job’s test and how he passed. Please come prepared to sit at the Lord’s Table as we will be communing with the Lord and one another.
Next Sunday evening: We have come to the final “I AM” statement of Jesus from John’s Gospel, “I AM-the True Vine.” Since we are eating the Lord’s Supper together in the morning, this evening’s worship service will be a good complement to the meal as we think about being connected to the Vine.
DEACON NEWS
Next Sunday our offerings will be received for Benevolence (AM) and Pine Rest (PM).
MISSIONS
Pray for all of our Missionaries this week that they may continue to bring God's word to the people in the various locations where they serve. Rev. Paul & Barb Bergsma are here in G.R. getting settled. Pray for them as they adjust to "semi-retirement" at this time.
Our Faith Promise Pledges, as of last Sunday, now total $23,035.00. There is still time to make your pledge, if you have not been here -- there are pledge cards on the mission display table in the narthex, as well as a box that you can put your pledge card in, or they can be put in any offering plate for the next several weeks. Again, the Mission Committee thanks you for your faithfulness for missions.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
Articles for the March Beacon are due today.
Next Sunday morning we will be celebrating communion. Beckwith has traditionally collected food on Communion Sundays. Place your donations on the tables at the rear of the sanctuary and they will be delivered to the food pantry at East Leonard CRC.
Don’t miss “Christ in the Passover”. What do the Jewish Passover and the Lord’s Supper have in common? Plan on attending the evening worship service on March 14 to find out as we welcome Andrew Barron, director of Jews for Jesus in Canada, to do a special presentation that will deepen your understanding of Christ’s sacrifice as symbolized in the Passover meal.
Teen Adventure remember to turn in your sign-up and deposit of $15 for the summer service retreat.
Please remember to sign out the DVDs from the church library when you borrow them. Thanks
6 more days and out comes the Old Maid, looking for Clues to Guess Who will climb up the Ladders and put Kings in their Corners. Be quick with your Hands and Feet, and yell Bingo, Peanut and Uno to be complete. We’re calling all Hearts to create a Memory, playing games March 6. At 6:30 the Spoons will be set till 9:00 when all kids will be sent to bed. You won’t be Sorry if you come down to Candy Land Lane. Come and go as you please throughout the evening and enjoy a free night of entertainment with Beckwith Hills Family. Donations will be taken to help cover the cost of the evenings activities.
The class on discovering your spiritual gifts will begin next Sunday. We will meet all four Sundays in March from 9-9:45 am. Doug Vanderwell will be the class facilitator. Please come for a time of fellowship, discovery and spiritual growth. Coffee and donuts will be provided.
It is the time of the year for the Forgotten Man Ministries Stewardship Dinner. It will be on March 9 and 11 at the Grandville Banquet and Conference Center, 2900 Wilson Ave, Grandville. Our goal is to raise enough money to continue the ministries in the Kent County Jail, work release, and Honor Camp. What is more important or rewarding than introducing men and women to Christ? We have the programs to do this but need your financial and prayer support. Any questions, contact Chaplain Bill Bruursema (632-63770) or Elmer Bruursema (363-6750).
Easter Lilies: We will be ordering lilies to remember loved ones. They will be used to decorate the santuary on Easter morning and may be taken home following the service. Order forms are at the message center and need to be turned in by March 28.
It’s abut time to start thinking about spring and with spring comes softball! Last yeat we had an overwhelming response. This year we would like to get a head start on signing up. That way we will know if we need to make two teams. We will also be looking for subs. Subs are people who would like to play but cannot commit to the whole season but are willing to play in the absence of a player. There will be sign up sheets for players and subs. This is just an interest sign up so we can get a feel for what to expect for the season. We are looking forward to the fun and fellowship of another great year.
Thanks, Randy & Bridgette Koll.
